School Fees Guide

Compare tuition fees across Australian non-government schools.

Fee Data Collection In Progress

We are collecting publicly available fee schedules from non-government school websites. Under Australian law (IceTV v Nine Networks, 2009), factual information such as fee schedules is not protected by copyright. Only Catholic and Independent school fees are collected — government schools in Australia are free.

Government
Free

Public schools in all states and territories are tuition-free. Some may have voluntary contributions or material fees.

Catholic
$2,000 – $15,000

Typical range for Catholic school annual tuition. Primary is usually lower than secondary. Discounts often available for multiple children.

Independent
$5,000 – $45,000+

Wide range across independent schools. Elite GPS/APS schools at the top end, smaller community schools at lower end. Boarding adds $15k–$30k.

What Affects School Fees

Sector

Catholic schools are typically subsidised by the diocese. Independent schools set fees freely.

Year Level

Secondary fees are usually higher than primary. Years 11–12 often carry premium for VCE/HSC resources.

Location

Metropolitan schools tend to charge more than regional schools due to operating costs.

Facilities

Schools with extensive grounds, pools, performing arts centres etc. tend to have higher fees.

Boarding

Boarding fees add $15,000–$30,000+ annually on top of tuition for residential students.

Sibling Discounts

Many schools offer 10–50% discounts for second, third, and subsequent children enrolled.
